LBTEK's SBM Series Spectral Broadening Modules utilize unique fine spectral modulation technology to broaden the spectrum of narrow-linewidth continuous-wave laser seed sources.
In fiber lasers, power scaling is often limited by Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS). SBS generates backscattered light propagating opposite to the incident light direction. In high-power amplifier systems, this back-reflected light can re-enter sensitive components, potentially damaging instruments and disrupting system operation — a critical failure mode in high-power setups.
The SBM Series uses phase modulation to broaden the seed source's single-frequency laser spectrum. This distributes the originally narrow (MHz-level) optical power across a wider frequency range (GHz-level), significantly reducing the power per frequency component and effectively broadening the Brillouin gain spectrum. Based on the theory of phase modulation, the SBM intelligently modulates the output spectrum of the seed source to raise the SBS threshold, enabling higher power operation with improved system safety and stability.
