LBTEK Multifocal (MF) DOE is manufactured using an N-BK7 glass substrate combined with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) material. The device consists of two 1-inch glass substrates and a single LCP layer with a designed phase pattern, making it a single-wavelength component.
As a diffractive optical element for focal shaping, the Multifocal DOE enables incident light to be focused axially into a fixed number of focal spots with equal spacing and uniform energy. The phase structure is designed based on the diffraction principle, and is realized by photo-controlled alignment in the LCP film. This modulates the incident wavefront, redistributes light into different diffraction orders, and, with the aid of a focusing lens, forms multiple focal points. Therefore, Multifocal DOEs are typically used together with objective lenses to meet practical multi-focus application needs.
The primary application is laser deep cutting, such as processing transparent glass, sapphire, and other hard materials. Compared with traditional single-focus laser cutting, the Multifocal DOE provides multiple evenly spaced focal spots along the axis, enabling deeper cutting and achieving smoother, more precise cut surfaces. LBTEK offers standard Multifocal DOEs designed for 1064 nm, available in configurations with 3 or 5 focal spots, suitable for use with different objective lens models.
