LBTEK Planar Axicon Lens (PB Axicon, PBA) is fabricated from N-BK7 glass substrates and liquid crystal polymer (LCP) material in a “front and rear glass substrates + central LCP functional layer” sandwich structure. Within the LCP layer, the fast-axis orientation of the liquid crystal molecules follows a radially uniform periodic gradient distribution, providing a consistent λ/2 retardation across the entire device plane. This makes it a single-wavelength optical component.
The planar axicon lens exhibits polarization-dependent optical properties. Depending on the polarization state of the incident beam, it can achieve annular beam convergence or divergence. When illuminated with left-handed circularly polarized light, it can also generate Bessel beams, which are non-diffracting and self-healing. Compared with conventional axicons, the LBTEK planar axicon lens features a flat structure without a physical cone tip, making it easier to integrate. The cone-tip functionality is realized by controlled liquid crystal molecular orientation, enabling micron-level fabrication precision. In addition, the device offers the advantage of high dispersion. LBTEK provides standard 1-inch planar axicon lenses with operating wavelengths of 532 nm, 633 nm, and 1064 nm, and deflection half-angles of 0.5°, 1°, 2.0°, 2.3°, and 4.7°. Flexible customization of parameters and specifications is also available.
The LBTEK Planar Axicon Lens with a clear aperture of 20 mm has an overall size of 1 inch and is available with three operating wavelengths: 532 nm, 633 nm, and 1064 nm. Depending on the phase period, five deflection half-angles are offered—0.5°, 1°, 2.0°, 2.3°, and 4.7°—providing flexibility to accommodate various working distances. An arrow mark is engraved on the side of the element to indicate the beam propagation direction: the open end of the arrow corresponds to the incident surface, while the pointed end corresponds to the output surface, serving as a clear guide for proper product use.
