LBTEK Planar Lens is a diffractive optical element that enables beam convergence or divergence depending on the polarization state of the incident light. The handedness of the output polarization is opposite to that of the incident polarization. By controlling the input polarization state, the energy distribution between converging and diverging spots can be tuned. Compared with conventional lenses, the planar lens can therefore function as both a converging and a diverging lens.
The planar lens adopts a flat-plate diffractive structure, where the diffraction angle follows sinθ = λ/p, with θ as the diffraction angle, λ as the design wavelength, and p as the radial period. The continuously varying radial period eliminates spherical aberration, ensuring that all rays diffracted across the effective aperture converge at the same focal point. The focal length of the planar lens primarily depends on the design wavelength, clear aperture, and diffraction period. LBTEK offers standard planar lenses with a clear aperture of Ø20 mm, design wavelengths of 532 nm and 633 nm, and focal lengths of 50 mm, 75 mm, and 100 mm.
LBTEK Planar Lens is fabricated on N-BK7 windows with a double-substrate design, providing a uniform phase retardation of λ/2 across the entire clear aperture at the design wavelength. LBTEK also offers customization for other specific wavelengths, focal lengths, and dimensions to meet diverse application requirements.
