LBTEK Spiral Phase Plate is a diffractive optical element that generates vortex beams by modulating the beam phase through variations in material height along the azimuthal direction. When a plane wave passes through the spiral phase plate, it is transformed into a vortex beam with a helical phase front. The output light propagates in a spiral manner along the optical axis, resulting in destructive interference at the beam center and forming a ring-shaped intensity profile with a central dark core.
The spiral phase plate offers the advantages of high efficiency, stability, ease of operation, and a high laser damage threshold, and has been widely applied in optical tweezers, high-resolution microscopy, information processing, and surface profiling. Compared with liquid crystal polymer, UV fused silica features lower absorption, making it more suitable for applications in the ultraviolet wavelength range. LBTEK provides standard spiral phase plates with operating wavelengths of 355 nm, 532 nm, and 1064 nm, with selectable topological charges of m = 1 or 2.
LBTEK Spiral Phase Plate is fabricated from UV fused silica using a surface relief process, forming a spiral step structure capable of generating vortex beams with a helical phase front. The standard spiral phase plate has a clear aperture of 9 × 9 mm and is mounted in a compatible 1-inch mechanical housing. The housing surface is engraved with the product model; unless otherwise specified, the engraved side is generally recommended as the incident surface of the beam to assist users in alignment and operation during setup.
