LBTEK polarization gratings (PG) are based on liquid crystal polymer (LCP) birefringent materials combined with N-BK7 glass substrates, forming a “glass substrate–LCP functional layer–glass substrate” sandwich structure. They are unmounted and feature a single-side chamfer. Within the LCP layer, the fast-axis orientation of the liquid crystal molecules varies continuously and periodically along the x-direction, providing a uniform λ/2 retardation across the entire device plane, making them single-wavelength devices.
Polarization gratings exhibit polarization-dependent optical properties. Depending on the polarization state of the incident beam, they can be used for adjustable power-ratio two-beam splitting or non-mechanical beam steering. Compared with conventional gratings, polarization gratings introduce polarization modulation functionality. With a planar, groove-free structure, they are easy to integrate, offering extremely low zero-order contribution and very high diffraction efficiency.
LBTEK provides standard polarization gratings with operating wavelengths selectable from 488 nm to 1550 nm, and grating periods of 5 or 8 μm, while also supporting flexible customization of parameters and specifications.
LBTEK 5 µm and 8 µm polarization gratings feature a clear aperture of Ø20 mm and are available with operating wavelengths selectable from 400 to 1550 nm. Depending on the polarization state of the incident light, they can be used to achieve adjustable-ratio two-beam splitting or beam steering. For the same phase period, polarization gratings designed for different operating wavelengths produce different beam deflection angles under illumination at their respective wavelengths. All products in this series guarantee a diffraction efficiency of >98%.
