LBTEK cascaded grating beam splitters (Multilayer Grating Beam Splitters, MLGS) are made from N-BK7 glass substrates combined with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) materials. They consist of three 1-inch double-chamfered substrates coated with LCP layers that integrate both grating and waveplate structures, designed as single-wavelength devices. When the incident light is linearly polarized, the relative orientation of the grating lines in each stage—either parallel or perpendicular—enables the beam splitter to achieve one-dimensional (1×4) or two-dimensional (2×2) four-beam splitting. The resulting beams are circularly polarized with different handedness, and the splitting angle is determined by the grating periods of each stage.
Cascaded gratings provide high transmission and, through optimized phase design and precise retardation control, deliver higher splitting efficiency and uniformity than typical Dammann grating beam splitters, while also ensuring high angular accuracy. LBTEK offers standard cascaded grating beam splitters with operating wavelengths of 532 nm and 1064 nm, and beam-splitting modes of 1×4 and 2×2, while also supporting flexible customization of specifications.
For the LBTEK 2×2 cascaded grating beam splitter, the groove orientations of the first- and second-stage gratings are designed perpendicularly to realize two-dimensional 2×2 beam splitting. With linearly polarized input light, splitting uniformity is optimal, guaranteed to be >90% at 532 nm and >93% at 1064 nm. It also provides a high useful-order power fraction, with total beam-splitting efficiency >97%.
