Consists of two economical thin-film linear polarizers
Designed for low-power applications
SM1 internal and external threads
The variable polarizer features SM1 external threads on the input side and SM1 internal threads on the output side, allowing easy integration with other optical components. When threading the polarizer into an SM1-compatible mount, tighten it with an SM1LR slotted retaining ring using the PCW-A spanner wrench (sold separately) to align the transmission axis of the input polarizer with the polarization direction of the incident beam.
When the arrow on the knurled ring points to the (+) mark, the transmission axes of the two polarizers are parallel, resulting in maximum transmission. When the arrow points to the (–) mark, the transmission axes of the input and output polarizers are orthogonal, producing minimum transmission. The knurled ring can rotate beyond the (+) and (–) marks by ±15°, providing continuous adjustment between maximum and minimum transmission.
By rotating the output polarizer, the transmitted light intensity can be smoothly tuned. The output polarizer can be locked in place with an M3×2.5 flat-head setscrew tightened by an M1.5 hex key.
This variable polarizer is ideal for low-power applications where linear polarization is required, offering high extinction ratio performance and an incident angle range up to ±20°.
