A plano-convex lens has one convex surface and one flat surface, providing a positive focal length. It is typically used to reduce beam size, decrease focal length, or magnify images. To minimize spherical aberration, the plano-convex lens should be oriented so that the curved surface faces the incoming collimated beam when focusing, while the flat surface faces the point source when collimating. LBTEK ZnSe plano-convex lenses are coated on both surfaces with an anti-reflection (AR) coating for 7–12 μm to reduce surface reflectance. LBTEK manufactures a variety of lenses using zinc selenide (ZnSe), which provides high transmission in the mid- to far-infrared spectral range. With a refractive index of about 2.89 over the 0.5–15 μm range and minimal absorption at 10.6 μm, ZnSe has become the material of choice for optical components in high-power CO₂ laser systems. In addition, ZnSe is widely used in various optical systems throughout its transmission range.
Note: ZnSe is a toxic material. Gloves should be worn when handling, and hands should be washed thoroughly after use.
LBTEK Plano-Convex Lenses feature positive focal lengths and are commonly used for imaging or beam collimation applications. They are manufactured from RoHS-compliant ZnSe, a material widely used for high-quality optical components, particularly suitable for mid-infrared and far-infrared applications. All LBTEK circular lenses are pre-installed in standard lens tubes or lens adapter mounts. The surfaces of these mechanical housings are engraved with the product model, type, diameter, and focal length, allowing users to quickly and easily identify lens specifications.
