Calcite crystal is a high-quality natural optical material that occupies an important position in optics due to its exceptional birefringence and broad spectral transmission range. Processed from carefully selected high-purity natural sources through precision cutting and polishing, calcite crystals feature excellent optical homogeneity and stable physicochemical properties, making them widely used in polarization optics, laser systems, and precision optical instruments.
The most remarkable property of calcite crystal is its strong birefringence (Δn = 0.172), which allows efficient separation of ordinary (o) and extraordinary (e) rays, making it an ideal material for polarizing beam splitters, optical isolators, and waveplates. With a broad transmission range (350–2300 nm) spanning from UV to near-infrared, calcite achieves high transparency with >90% transmission in the visible range. Taking advantage of its natural rhombohedral cleavage and precision cutting techniques, calcite crystals can be fabricated with optically flat surfaces (λ/8 @ 633 nm). In addition, calcite crystals demonstrate good mechanical strength and chemical stability, ensuring reliable performance under diverse environmental conditions.
Our calcite crystal products undergo rigorous quality control, including optical homogeneity inspection, birefringence performance testing, and surface quality evaluation. Custom options are available in terms of cutting orientation (along the optical axis or at specified angles), sizes (from 5 × 5 × 5 mm to 50 × 50 × 50 mm), and optical polishing (single- or double-side polished).
Notes: For best performance, store and operate calcite crystals at 25 °C and 40%–60% relative humidity. If the crystal surface becomes contaminated, gently clean with >99% alcohol and lint-free lens tissue. Avoid rough fabrics, water, or abrasive cleaners to prevent coating damage.
