The LBTEK fiber polarization controller operates by wrapping the fiber around a circular disk or applying stress birefringence to the fiber, thereby creating independent waveplates and altering the polarization state of the light transmitted through the single-mode fiber. The three-ring polarization controller consists of three rings, each equivalent to λ/4, λ/2, and λ/4 waveplates, while the pressurized polarization controller functions as a rotating, variable waveplate. Both types of controllers can convert any input polarization state into the desired output polarization state. The all-fiber design greatly reduces insertion loss and back-reflection, making it a suitable replacement for traditional polarization controllers made of waveplates. LBTEK offers both pre-installed fiber devices and empty devices. The polarization controller is mainly used for fibers with Ø900 µm protective jackets or Ø250 µm bare fibers.
The mechanical three-ring polarization controller provided by LBTEK is based on the principle of birefringence generated by external forces acting on the fiber. The three rings are equivalent to λ/4, λ/2, and λ/4 waveplates. By rotating and adjusting the angles of the three rings, the polarization state of the incident light can be transformed into any desired polarization state. The delay effect caused by the birefringence effect is mainly determined by the fiber cladding radius, the fiber winding radius, and the input light wavelength. The number of fiber turns for different wavelengths can be calculated using the formulas provided in the technical documentation. LBTEK offers both empty polarization controllers and pre-installed fiber polarization controllers. The polarization controller is mainly used for fibers with Ø900 µm protective jackets.
